Celestino was born in a farmhouse near Sant’Antimo abbey, about five kilometers from the town of Montalcino. The youngest of six sons, his parents Guido and Maddalena planned for him to become an office worker, as the postwar years in Italy were a period of rapid urbanization and industrialization - people were abandoning the countryside by the thousands for the opportunity of living in the city.

Celestino decided instead to follow his passion for farming despite his parents' plans for him, and so in 1968, he acquired two farmhouses and 40 hectares of land. Times change, but Celestino's family is a simple one, bound to traditions and unwilling to forget its roots; for this reason one of the vineyards is named after Celestino’s mother Maddalena, who died in 2000. Today, Azienda Agricola Celestino Pecci is still strictly a family affair. Daughter Tiziana Pecci now runs the estate, with the help of her father and her mother, Idria, who manages to transform each harvest and each vintage into a celebration.
