Those who know vigneron Jean-Claude Giraud describe him as one of a kind. Extremely passionate about his life’s work, he fully immerses himself in the cultivation of his vineyards, and in producing dynamic wines of character.

For twenty years, Jean-Claude Girard worked in the cellar of historic Pomerol producer Denis Durantou of Château L’Église Clinet. He no doubt carries Durantou’s enthusiasm and dedication with him as he established his own winery.

Château le Manoir’s vineyards are ideally situated in the north of the region, on classic right-bank Bordeaux clay and gravel soil. Giraud began his production with a small 1.8 hectares, and has since expanded his holdings to 5 hectares. He carefully and lovingly farms his vineyards by hand without the use of chemicals.

Jean-Claude Giraud is thoughtful and unswayed by trends in winemaking, preferring to trust his very hands-on, but non-interventionist process. He often calls to mind advice given to him by his father: sacrifice is sometimes neccessary to achieve extraordinary results, and to work with intention, avoiding mistakes before they happen. Giraud refuses to compare his wines to other notable producers of the region, believing that the quality of his wines will be self-evident.
