Françoise Jeanniard is a 4th generation winegrower from a tiny, family-owned domaine of only 3 ha, located at the border between the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. The winery and cellar are based in Pernand-Vergelesses, right by Aloxe-Corton.

The domaine is blessed with many old vines, with 95% of the plots being approximately 60 years old, planted by Francoise’s father and grandfather. Francoise eventually planted her own plot with her daughter, Alexandra in 2006 on a very hard to access hill: Le Devant Des Cloux, a pretty hillside slope facing south-east at an elevation of more than 350 meters. The position of the vineyard is sheltered from the prevailing winds, allowing for warmer summers and imparting a unique texture and richness to the wines.

Francoise currently farms her vines with the approach of lutte raisonnée, a sustainable approach to viticulture. She takes great care to embrace the terroir and preserve the health of her vines, working with the lunar calendar to guide her. No herbicides are used, and as of October 2020 the estate began converting to certified organic viticulture. The use of oak at the domaine is judicious, with alcoholic and malolactic fermentations conducted in temperature-controlled cement vats for the reds, and stainless-steel vats for the whites. All of the wines are then matured in older oak barrels for about 10 to 12 months.

From the controlled yields to the manual harvest and sorting, all vineyard work is meticulously carried out. Françoise does everything herself, from vineyard cultivation to bottle preparation— even encapsulating each bottle one by one like a true artisan. With a total production of 14,000 bottles a year from only 3 ha of vineyards, these hard-to-come-by bottlings are a special treat from a hidden gem of an appellation.
