Winemaker and founder Ettore Biraghi was born in Varese, Italy, and cultivated his love for winemaking starting as an agronomist in Ticino, Switzerland.

In 2015 when Ettore first laid his eyes on Mendocino, he knew it immediately to be the ideal terroir for his production of organic and low-intervention fine wine. With further research Ettore discovered the tiny town of Hopland in Mendocino’s Sanel Valley, where in 2019 he established his winery and took his place in the centuries-long history of one of California’s most dramatic winegrowing regions—one whose future is as promising as its past is historic. In this warm, wild microclimate, the grapes ripen and produce expressive wine without needing any excessive manipulation, resulting in pure wines of outstanding quality.

Although this project is relatively young, the winery located at the foot of the Duncan Peak is over 100 years old. The estate is planted with 35 acres of certified organic vineyards interspersed with cover crops and local plant species. The full range of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Chardonnay is made with no added sulfites, resulting in terroir-driven wines that fully express Ettore’s vision through the hills of Mendocino.
