The Reverdy family has been living in Verdigny, a village with a high wine-growing tradition in Sancerre, for many generations. Domaine Reverdy Bernard et Fils traces its lineage through a long line of winegrowers. It was first passed down to Bernard’s son Noël and his wife Claudine. In 2009 their son, Romain, joined them in running the estate and took the reins upon their retirement in 2019. Today it’s a truly family affair, Romain runs the estate alongside alongside his wife, Laure; his sister, Élise; and his brother-in-law, Thibaud. Together, the current generation is deeply committed to preserving their family’s legacy through careful stewardship of the terroir and sustainable viticulture.

Romain Reverdy has undoubtedly become one of the most promising vignerons of the Sancerre appellation. Romain and his team cultivate nearly 19 hectares, including 43 plots across the various terroirs of Sancerre, including several remarkable places in Sancerre appellation including “Vignoble de la Perrière” and “Côte des Monts Damnés” vineyards. By keeping grass between the vines and using mechanical rather than chemical methods to care for the soil, Romain makes good use of vines that are an average of 35 to 40 years old with some vines as old as 65 to 70 years in age. All three principal Sancerre soil types, terres blanches (chalk), caillottes (a gravelly limestone-based soil), and silex (flint) are represented and bring complexity, purity and a unique character to his wine.

In the off season, Romain and the team take particular care in pruning and disbudding operations, paying particular attention to the choice of grafts for mandatory replacements in a manner that optimizes microbial life and avoids soil erosion. In the cellar, they pay particular attention to respecting the harvest and preserving the potential of each grape by controlling temperatures during vinification and ageing and working in a gentle way that limits crushing as much as possible. Final blending of wines from the different terroirs brings distinctiveness and consistency to the wines. This continued respect for the grapes from vineyard to cellar guarantees freshness, fruit and minerality expressions in the wine.

In 2014, Romain released his own namesake wine under the label, Romain Reverdy. These wines are grown in the family vineyards maintaining the same philosophy of sustainability, quality, and preservation of tradition and terroir.
