The story of Sassocorno winery begins in 2017 with a choice. The founders of the winery fell in love with and chose the hilly area of eastern Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, midway between the Adriatic Sea and the Carnic Alps, to establish their winery. They chose to be guided by a philosophy of sustainability and a deep respect for nature. Every decision that followed, from the selection of native grape varieties to the winemaking and bottling processes, stems from conscious choices. The team has chosen to preserve nature’s biodiversity, to enhance the territory, and to create wines that are the pure expression of the terroir.
With the goal to create pure, free, and clean wines, the Sassocorno team have introduced bees, precious allies, which contribute to pollination and increase biodiversity. The soil is managed according to criteria oriented towards the maintenance of organic matter and harvests ripe grapes manually by individual parcels. Even in the cellar, respect for the natural rhythms is of the utmost importance: fermentations take place spontaneously, thanks to the indigenous yeasts present in the grapes. Traditional and natural winemaking methods are employed, without the use of chemicals, and the wines are certified organic.
