Soutiran is a family-owned Champagne house in the village of Ambonnay, at the southern end of the Montagne de Reims. The winery was started in 1950 by Gérard Soutiran and taken over in 1969 by Alain, the eldest of Gérard’s 4 children. They strove to develop their operations and create their own range of champagnes under the name Soutiran Pelletier. In 1989, following her business studies, Alain’s eldest daughter Valérie joined the family business, taking over management and developing the commercial side. The name then became “Champagne Soutiran”, to facilitate communication with export markets. In 1999, Valérie’s husband Patrick Renaux also joined the business, and now oversees production.

The estate manages 6 hectares of vines, the majority of which are situated on the terroir of Ambonnay, including a few parcels of 1er Cru, in the villages of Trépail, Chigny-les-Roses, Ludes, and Chamery. The vineyard management respects sustainable viticulture practices and uses only organic fertilizers, with minimal use of herbicides.

Soutiran takes great time and care in creating these artisanal champagnes. The cuvées rest horizontally on their lees for 5 to 9 years before they are disgorged, and the amount of dosage is redefined yearly for each individual cuvée.
