Podere Sapaio "Sapaio" 2010

James Suckling: 95pts

Aromas of blueberries and currants. Very bright and pretty. Full body with lovely tannins, a fine texture and a fresh finish. Pretty and refined. Best ever from here. A blend of 70 per cent cabernet sauvignon, 10 per cent cabernet franc and 10 per cent petit verdot. Better in 2015.

International Wine Report: 94+pts

The 2010 'Sapaio' is a profound wine, dark and brooding, with bold aromas of freshly crushed blackberry and dark cherries followed by fresh violets with touches of graphite, tobacco and loam all taking shape as it begins to unwind. This muscular red is full-bodied and remarkably structured showing notable balance and depth all the way through they multidimensional finish that lingers on and on. An incredible showing that still needs additional time in bottle before it enters its optimal drinking window. (Best 2020-2030) - May, 2016 (JD)

Wine Advocate: 93pts

The 2010 Bolgheri Superiore Sapaio is even darker with thick blackness at its rim. It's a brawny and thickly layered expression with dark blackberry, prune, tobacco, leather and crushed granite or dark mineral. Herbal flavors appear on the close and the tannins still require time to soften. This wine is built to age. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. I have always enjoyed the wines of Podere Sapaio. They almost always hit that enviable sweet spot that sees good winemaking happily married to territory-driven personality.
