Chateau Maucoil Chateauneuf du Pape Privilege 2015

Wine Advocate: 94pts

I couldn't discern much difference between the 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape Privilege and the Esprit de Maucoil. The Privilege is a floral yet full-bodied wine that never seems overly rich or heavy, but instead, it steadily unfurls layers of red fruits and spice on its long, silky finish. It should drink well for another decade or more.

Wine Spectator: 93pts

Juicy and inviting, with layers of fig, boysenberry and raspberry pâte de fruit driving through, lined with a licorice snap note and backed by warm fruitcake and toasted apple wood accents. Juicy and mouthfilling, relying on a burst of fruit, but with the depth and cut to back it up. Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Clairette and Bourboulenc. Drink now through 2030. 600 cases made.

 International Wine Report: 94pts

The 2015 'Cuvée Privilege' is absolutely sensational in the vintage. It begins is wonderful aromas of black cherries and raspberry cordial woven together with spices, pepper and a touch of lavender. Full and round on the palate, this possesses wonderful concentration and depth, with a mix of red and dark fruits. There is a gorgeous seamless quality that makes it inviting to approach at this early stage. Delicious now, but give it a few more years.

Wine Enthusiast: 91pts

Hints of garrigue and bramble lend savory freshness to ripe, almost ruddy black cherry and preserved plum flavors. It's a plush, weighty wine held upright by fresh acidity and very ripe but firm, persistent tannins. Enjoy now–2030.
