Schiopetto Malvasia 2016

Vinous: 93pts

Bright straw. Intensely perfumed, aromatic nuances of grapefruit, white pepper and pear on the captivating nose. Fresh and juicy but tactile, with a varietally accurate saline twist to the chewy ripe yellow fruit. Finishes long and saline and with lovely balance: the label reads 15% but you cannot tell. From a 46 years old vineyard in Capriva in the direction of Russiz. Readers might like to know that this is the original vineyard in which Marco Simonit, probably the world’s most famous expert on pruning (who works not just in Italy but for the likes of Château Latour and Château d’Yquem as well) started his experimentations.

James Suckling: 91pts

A fresh and clean wine with medium body, grape skin and lemon. Bright acidity. Sautéed almond. Drink now.
