Podere Sapaio Sapaio 2013

James Suckling: 94pts

Lovely lavender and mineral character to this red with medium body, velvety tannins and a juicy finish. Extremely refined. Sage undertones to it as well. Drink or hold.

Luca Maroni: 96pts

From the first visual contact, this wine is of another category. That, of the absolute champion. First of all for its richness: its color blue eggplant is impenetrably black, its fragrance is powerful, its touch is a liquid pulp with amazing fiber density. There is a beautiful balance: the tannin and the acidity are enveloped by the amount of soft blackberry of this really exhaustive wine. Finally the wine process: no transformation mistake, no mistake in the aromatic integrity and oxidation of this exceptional, elegant sample. An incredible wine. Permanently among the best Italian reds.

Wine Advocate: 93pts

The 2013 Bolgheri Superiore Sapaio is a rich and penetrating wine with a long sense of silky persistence. The blend is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Petit Verdot and 10% Cabernet Franc aged in oak for 18 months. Some 20,000 bottles are produced. Initially, the wine feels crisp and delineated. Make no mistake, the power and the brawn creep up on you slowly with firm tannins and black fruit intensity at the back.

Wine Spectator: 92pts

This is elegant and vibrant, boasting black currant, blackberry, violet, licorice and spice flavors. Balanced, with firm grip and a fresh finish that echoes fruit and spice. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Best from 2019 through 2030. 1,250 cases made.
